But it produces a true filmic image that competes with higher end cinema cameras. You either need new MFT glass or an adapter. Most have been fixed via update or it seems not all cameras have orbs issue or black dot. The BMPCC on the other has many many quirks.
And if you already have it and heavily invested in the Canon ecosystem, why not just download some free software (ML) and shoot amazing footage? Almost seems like a no-brainer there. And with really good lighting, I've seen stuff from the 5D (with h.264 codec) look as if it was shot on RED. Full frame, canon EF mount.easy! But it's $3,500. What is worth more to you as a filmmaker/videographer? The Canon 5D is tried and true. I'm sure others will chime in soon but I think it comes down to personal preference. It looks remarkable, yet it still looks like television. This was the best 5D Mk3 raw footage I've ever seen. Maybe because my eyes are spoiled after looking at all this glorious BMC footage, anything coming out of a Canon with the exception of the C cameras, looks like "video", unless the grade was extreme and well done. The 5D Mk3 RAW, to my eyes, even though the quality definitely exceeds H.264, still doesn't look very "filmic". The workflow with the pocket is a little better IMO. You can shoot some great stuff on both and both look fantastic.
However, something like that is very subjective.

Overall, a top manual to go with an amazing camera plus there’s a quick reference wallet card tucked into the book. On the bright side there is a fair bit of hand-holding, especially in the later pages where advice is given on the use of other makers’ lenses and accessories, wireless flash, linking to a computer and more. The detail is spectacular: were you aware that, when the finder mirror lifts then returns, the blackout time is 145ms at 1/60 second or faster?įor me, the book’s layout is a little inferior to the original manual, immersing menu icons into body text in similar fashion to the original book but in the process using fewer screen shots of the finder menu. And this is what makes the book an indispensable companion, no matter whether you’re shooting in the studio or on the road. Then it’s down to business and the point where novices and experts part company as the book explores the camera’s features and controls.
